Hijab Offline PERFORMANCE THEATRE 40 MIN. | 12+
Another argument about the headscarf! No other piece of clothing triggers more Western fascination and projections of “the foreign” than the hijab. Hardly any other symbol is discussed more heatedly, ignoring the complex and diverse realities of women's lives. But the women concerned decide for themselves what coercion and voluntary means. Nevertheless, everyone seems to know better what the hijab means, except for those women who want or have to wear it themselves.
25-year-old Shahrzad speaks for herself and shows how the hijab functions as a site of identity and imagination. Her friends know that Shahrzad no longer wears it, but her family doesn't yet know. Be there live when Shahrzad from Iran takes off her headscarf and tells her parents that she is defending herself against the constraints imposed by society. Via Instagram Live, the young woman breaks with the discipline and expectations of society and family. She dances with the part of her body that she was never able to dance with: she only dances with her hair. “Hijab offline” is much more than a biographical examination of imposed constraints; the performance shows sexist and racist views of Muslim women.
