Once upon a time, a group of free women lived, worked and fought on the shores of the Black Sea. They founded a community without men and called themselves the Amazons. How did this come about? And why did the male heroes of antiquity react so aggressively? Equipped with Lego figures, landscape models, live video and protest images from the internet, a storyteller sets off on the trail of the myth and stages a contemporary version for children aged between six and twelve.

Unaccompanied by adults, AMAZONS initiates an open discussion among children of the same age on central issues of our time: Is it justified to use violence to defend ourselves against external attacks? How far can or should we go to defend our own opinions and protest against (gender) injustice? Who are the Amazons of our time? And what does all this have to do with the Amazon River?
